DOWEL & JONES FLASH DAY
-
Please bring along a form of ID and a change of clothes if you are getting tattooed in a covered area.
For example, a pair of shorts if you'd like the tattoo on your upper thigh, but decided to wear denim jeans on the day. -
When you arrive we will give you a consent form to fill out.
Before your tattoo we will have a look at the design together in the mirror before putting on the stencil. When placing the stencil I will put on some gloves and use some paper towel and sanitiser to clean the area of skin that will be tattooed. I will then use soap, paper towel and a razor to wash + shave the area. After I’ve patted the skin dry with more paper towel, I will apply some stencil “glue” to the skin using my gloved hand, and rub to spread it across the skin until it has absorbed enough to leave a sticky consistency. Sometimes if too much stencil glue has been applied, it can take a lil longer to rub in and get to the perfect sticky consistency. I will then place the stencil onto the skin. To get the perfect stencil I will often put one hand over the stencil and press- Sometimes I may have to use my other hand to support you while the stencil is being pressed on. For example, if I am placing a stencil on the front of your thigh I will use one hand to press on the stencil, and with the other hand I may need to press the back of your thigh for extra support.
Once the stencil is on, I will explain or even show you how you will be positioned for your tattoo. Depending on the position, like areas of the torso, we may not be able to chat much throughout the tattoo- but I will explain this during this time.
Once you are in position I will get ready to start. Depending on the machines I use, some are quite loud, and I’ll invite you to pop in some headphones if it makes you more comfy throughout the tattoo.
When I start the tattoo I will apply some vaseline on the stencil first and will tattoo a small line to start. I’ll ask how you feel and if it was okay before I continue the tattoo. Consent is an ongoing process, so at this point I’ll often mention that if you feel uncomfy at any point, for any reason, to let me know and I’ll stop, and we can have a break, stretch, chat or anything you need before continuing.
Throughout the tattoo I will explain to you what I’m doing, which may include: what machine I’m using, what to expect from different techniques (shading, colour etc), how they may feel, when I’m washing my machine, or if I need a stretch break!
Once the tattoo is finished, I’ll give it a good wash with soap and paper towel. Some people LOVE this part and say it feels cold and soothing, other people say it stings. Once it’s all clean, I’ll rub some cream over the surface, move my things out of your way so you can stand up safely and have a look at your fresh new tattoo in the mirror!
At this point I’ll ask if it’s okay if I take a photo, and if yes, I’ll take a quick pic.
I will then give your tattoo another good wash, pop some cream on it, and wrap it tightly with glad wrap and medical tape. I’ll then refer you to a QR code for aftercare.
Because of the fast paced nature of the day, I may not be able to go into detail with you, but please reach out if you have any Qs!Then, it’s time to start the rest of your day feeling your best self, strutting your stuff, with your brand new tattoo!
